Why Boston?

Boston is a unique and vibrant city for students to live in and study English. There is no place like it in the United States when it comes to history, educational significance, culture, and sports.

Founded in 1630 by English settlers, Boston played a pivotal role in the American Revolution, with key figures like Paul Revere, John Hancock, Samuel Adams, and John Adams hailing from the city. Many historical sites from that era have been preserved, and the famous Freedom Trail connects them for us to visit.

Education is a cornerstone of Boston’s identity. The Boston Latin School, established in 1635, was the first high school in the United States and is still operating today. Harvard College, founded in nearby Cambridge in 1636, adds to the city's academic prestige.

With 64 colleges and universities in the greater Boston area, the city is a major hub for higher education, ranking fourth in the United States for the number of institutions but first in colleges per square mile.

Boston is no stranger to international students. Before COVID, the city hosted up to 120,000 international students, and current numbers are approaching those levels again. This familiarity makes Boston a welcoming city for new international students.

The city has also thrived on immigrant populations, with neighborhoods historically dominated by groups from various nationalities, such as Italians in the North End, Irish in Southie, and Vietnamese in Dorchester. Today, Cape Verdeans, Haitians, and Brazilians are among the most common immigrant populations.

Boston is a place of great beauty, featuring iconic locations such as Boston Common, the Public Garden with its Swan Boats, and the Charles River along Memorial Drive.

The nearby Cape Cod, Maine, and Vermont regions also offer stunning landscapes.

Sports are almost a second religion in Boston, with passionate fans supporting the Boston Celtics (basketball), the New England Patriots (American football), the Boston Bruins (hockey), and the Boston Red Sox (baseball).

Each of these teams has a rich history and multiple championships, with Boston being the only city whose teams have won the four major championships in one calendar year.

Boston is also famous for its food, boasting an abundance of authentic cultural restaurants due to its large and diverse population. Seafood lovers can indulge in fresh lobster boils, clam chowder, buttery lobster rolls, and fresh fish. The North End is a haven for Italian food, with Mike's Pastries and Modern Pastry offering iconic desserts like cannoli and the lobster tail. Boston's Chinatown is one of the oldest in the US, offering a variety of regional cuisines, along with nearby enclaves of Japanese and Korean food.

Boston's rich history, educational importance, cultural diversity, sports enthusiasm, and culinary delights make it an exceptional city for students to live and study English.

There is no city in the United States like Boston for International Students, and there is no ESL school in Boston like ASC!
